PharMerica Discloses Data Breach Impacting 5.8 Million Individuals

by | May 19, 2023 | Data Breaches

According to The Cyber Wire, PharMerica, a pharmacy benefit manager that offers prescription drug services to patients and healthcare providers, has announced a data breach that has affected 5.8 million individuals. The breach occurred between February 25th and March 8th and resulted in the theft of sensitive data such as names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and dates of birth.

PharMerica immediately took steps to secure its systems upon discovering the breach on March 8th, while also cooperating with law enforcement to investigate the incident. The company is providing those impacted with free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services to mitigate the damage caused by the breach.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that a pharmacy benefit manager has been impacted by a data breach in recent times. Earlier this year in January, CVS Health disclosed a data breach affecting 70 million individuals. As cyber-attacks continue to increase in frequency and complexity, it’s essential for companies to remain vigilant and take proactive measures to safeguard sensitive data.
